General information about the 2002-2003 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-9R

The ZX-9R combines open-class power, scalpel-sharp 750 superbike handling, and comfort the competitors can’t match. Its incredible performance starts with a magnificent 899cc DOHC In-Line Four inspired by our fearsome AMA Superbikes. We rigidly mounted it in a pressed-aluminum frame, then added high-quality, tuneable suspension and great wind protection. Lightweight brakes and a host of exotic components keep the weight down to an incredible 410 pounds.

Wide-opening, extended-intake Twin Ram Air system brings in high volumes of air for improved intake pressure. K-TRIC digital ignition control provides more precise timing over an extended range of operating conditions and helps enhance throttle response. Race-derived engine technology includes an ultra-narrow 25° included valve angle for the lightweight alloy 16-valve cylinder head. Aluminum linerless chrome composite plated alloy cylinders reduce overall weight.

Crankshaft-mounted alternator helps cut friction and mechanical loss. Lightweight, miniaturized ignition coils plug into each twin-electrode spark plug. Magnesium alloy covers for the cylinder head, clutch, digital ignition pickup, and engine sprocket decrease weight. A curved alloy radiator allows a short 55.7-inch wheelbase. Single, high-volume oil pump and race-bred liquid-cooled oil cooler. Super lightweight titanium muffler is positioned for excellent cornering clearance.
