2015-2016 Yamaha FZ-07 Maintenance Schedule and Service Intervals

2015-2016 Yamaha FZ-07

This is the maintenance schedule and associated service intervals for the 2015-2016 Yamaha FZ-07.

What you need to service the Yamaha FZ-07 — Consumables and Special Tools

If you’re servicing the FZ-07, you at least need

For the FZ-07, the manual recommends the following specific consumables.

Engine oilYamalube 10W-40 or 10W-50 (manual says 15W-50 but that’s strangely more expensive). The manual suggests it and it’s affordable on Amazon with a solid 5-star rating. Other lubricants would do, but that’s your call. Don’t over-torque the bolt (spec is 43 Nm/32 lb-ft for the oil drain bolt per the manual) — use a torque wrench if you don’t have experience with how much torque is enough.
Oil filterNeeds to be changed every time you change the oil. Either get a stock one (part 5GH-13440-50-00, used for many Yamaha products) or the K&N KN-204-1. Torque for the oil filter is 17 Nm/13 lb-ft.
Engine coolantYamaha recommends Yamalube, but use any coolant with a 50/50 mix of ethylene glycol and water. You can either use pre-mix or concentrate (for which you’d need demineralised water). I usually recommend this Valvoline 50/50 pre-mix.
Spark PlugsNGK LMAR9E-J (no alternatives). This is what the manual and mechanics suggest. Make sure it’s gapped correctly to 0.6-0.7mm (get a gapping tool) and torqued to 18 Nm/13 lb-ft (new) or 13Nm/10 lb-ft (after checking).
Air filterYamaha part number 1WS-14450-00-00, which you can get from a Yamaha dealer or eBay. You can also get the K&N equivalent, YA-6814, from Amazon.
Brake padsI recommend EBC double hardened brake pads for extra life and better brake feel. You need two sets for the front (FA252HH) and rear (FA174HH).
Oil, filters, coolant, plugs, and brake pads for the FZ-07/MT-07/XSR700

You also need the below general consumables for basic service.

Brake fluidA DOT-4 lubricant is recommended. I recommend Castrol Dot 4 full synthetic — cost effective and good.
Chain lubricantThe chain needs to be lubricated every 800 km/500 miles (or more, if it gets wet/dirty). Motul’s chain lube is good. Make sure you have the right applicator brush, and a rear stand, like this lightweight and well-priced Vortex race stand.
Clutch cable lubricantRemember to lubricate your clutch cable. Protect All Cable Life is a good general-purpose lubricant.
GreaseGet a good lithium soap based grease for lubricating major components like your side stand, centre stand, and bearings.
