Ducati Panigale V4 SP (2021+) Maintenance Schedule

This is the maintenance schedule and service intervals for the Ducati Panigale V4 SP, Ducati’s latest entrant into the V4 line that started with the original Ducati Panigale V4 in 2018.

The Ducati Panigale V4 SP is powered by the same V4 engine as in the base model Panigale V4, a 1103 cc “Desmosedici Stradale” 90-degree V4. It has four valves per cylinder and is liquid-cooled.

With its 14.0:1 compression ratio, the Panigale V4 SP makes the same power of a peak of 157.5 kW (214 CV / 211 bhp) @ 13000 rpm, and peak torque of 124 Nm (91.5 lb-ft) @ 9500 rpm.

The Panigale V4 SP comes with a lot of the higher tech of the V4 S and V4 R even, but without the smaller race engine in the V4 R.

Regular maintenance for the Ducati Panigale V4 SP

Like any motorcycle, the Panigale V4 SP needs regular attention to its most used parts.

Ducati recommends that if you take your V4 SP down damp/muddy roads, or race your bike, to service it more often.

Every 1000 km/500 miles OR 6 months (whichever comes earlier), perform the following maintenance:

Maintaining the Panigale V4 SP is a lot like maintaining the Panigale V4 with one caveat: it has a dry clutch, like the V4 R.

Notes on the maintenance schedule

  • General maintenance intervals re every 7500 miles (12000 km). Valve service interval is every 15000 miles (24000 km)
  • You will need to service your motorcycle more if you take it to the track.
  • When there is a time or distance interval, follow the earlier of the two.
  • Items marked [D] need dealer-specific tools and resources (like DDS, or access to the recall database)

The Panigale V4 SP shares a lot in common with the higher-end Ducatis, with mostly a base of the V4 S and some higher-end components.

Essentially, Ducati position the Panigale V4 SP as being a track bike for less experienced riders who want to go fast right out of the gate — they claim that an inexperienced rider will be able to get more out of the V4 SP than out of the higher-spec Ducati Panigale V4 R.

Ducati delivers on this by giving a bike that has a lot of the lightweight and advanced tech of the V4 R, but with the engine from the V4 and V4 S, which is larger and offers a meatier midrange.

Starting with the Panigale V4 S, we get a classic Panigale superbike with all the bits we’ve come to expect. It has an 1103cc “Desmosedici Stradale” 90-degree V4 that’s liquid cooled and has four valves per cylinder — for a total of 32 valve interval adjustments.

Luckily, the valve service intervals for the Panigale V4 S are every 15000 miles (24000 km). But they’re expensive (or time consuming) when you get there.

The Panigale V4 SP gets the high-end electronic suspension from the V4 S — an Öhlins NIX30 43mm fully adjustable fork and an Öhlins fully adjustable TTX36 rear shock. Rebound and compression damping on the front and rear are both electronically controlled by the Öhlins Smart EC2.0 event-based module.

The steering damper on the Panigale V4 SP is also by Öhlins and is also electronically controlled by the same smart unit.

Note that the Panigale V4 R gets Öhlins suspension, but it’s not electronically controlled. Same with the steering damper.

The wheels on the V4 SP are a bit higher spec than both the wheels on the V4 S and the V4 R — they’re 5-split spoke carbon fibre wheels, a step-up from the forged alloy tri-W rims on the V4 S. These are from the Superleggera.

The brakes on the V4 SP are also an improvement too, with Brembo Stylema R calipers, compared with the Stylema on all the other Panigale V4 motorcycles. The brakes also come with a Brembo MCS 19.21 master cylinder which gives remote adjustment of the lever travel to braking ratio.

The Stylema R brake calipers on the V4 SP are similar (they take the same brake pads), but are designed to give very consistent performance under high-stress conditions. In simple terms, they’re designed to always apply the same amount of brake pressure for the same amount of lever pressure even after a lot of heavy use, giving stability and predictability to braking. All calipers are designed for this, but these are Brembo’s latest revision in this quest. They’re also their lightest superbike calipers.

Finally, the Panigale V4 SP has a dry clutch, as the Panigale V4 R does (but not the other Panigale V4s with the 1103cc engine).

Oh, and you also get a billet plate giving your vehicle number of the V4 SP, just so you can show how unique it is.

The Ducati Panigale V4 SP also is the first to come with “Winter Test” livery, dark and carbon-forward.
