About the Yamaha TT-R225
The Yamaha TTR 225 is a dirt bike that was manufactured until 2004 when it was replaced with the Yamaha TTR 230.
The TTR 225 was well known for its superior reliability. The 2000 model shares its mechanical specifications with all TTR 225s up to 2004 — save for a few minor cosmetic changes on the exterior.
The Yamaha TTR 225 is 81.5 inches in length, 32.3 inches wide, 45.3 inches high and has a 53.1-inch wheelbase, producing a dry weight of 260.1 lbs. It has a total fuel capacity of 2.64 gallons. The body material is made out of plastic, and is fitted with chassis protectors, exterior guards, fork guards, front and rear plastic fenders and skid plates.
The Yamaha TTR 225 has a single-cylinder, four-stroke, air-cooled engine in SOHC configuration with two valves per cylinder. A compression ratio of 9.5:1, coupled with a bore and stroke of 2.8 and 2.3 inches, producing a maximum torque of 13.1 foot-pounds at 6,500 rpm.
The engine is started with both an electric and kick-start mechanism. Fuel is delivered using a 40-mm Mikuni CV with a throttle position sensor. The motorcycle is equipped with a six-speed CDI manual transmission and has a chain-operated final drive.
The Yamaha TTR 225 is fitted with telescopic-fork suspension in the front and single-shock suspension in the rear. The suspension travel in the front and rear is nine and 7.6 inches respectively.
The front is fitted with 8.7-inch single-disc brakes and a 80/100 R21 tire. The rear is fitted with 5.1-inch drum brakes and a 100/100 R18 tire. The frame is made out of steel.
TTR225’s are known for being extremely reliable. The TTR225 is based on and nearly identical to its street legal sister bike, the XT 225, the only difference being the lights, passenger foot pegs, smaller rear sprocket, and other street legal accessories. Both bikes are equipped with electric start.
